A focused static site built to handle job applications for Poole Family Enterprises, kept deliberately simple and self-contained.
Padre's Forge is the job application site for Poole Family Enterprises. It is not a sprawling careers portal, and it was never meant to be. It is a small, purpose-built site whose entire job is to present the family business well and give applicants a clean way in.
Building for the Actual Need
There is a strong pull, whenever you build anything that touches hiring, to reach for the full machinery: an applicant tracking system, integrations, dashboards, a database of candidates you will never query. For a family enterprise that pull is almost entirely wrong. The real requirement is narrow. Someone lands on the page, understands what the business is, and applies without friction. Everything past that is weight I would have to carry later.
So I built it as a straightforward HTML site. The structure maps directly to what a visitor needs to read and do, in the order they need it. No framework sits between the content and the person looking at it, which keeps the whole thing fast to load and, just as importantly, fast for me to change when the business wants different wording or a new role listed.
Simple Is a Feature, Not a Compromise
The thing I keep coming back to with sites like this is that simplicity is not the fallback option, it is the correct one. A static site for a family business has no server to keep patched, no moving parts to fail at an awkward moment, and no operational tail. When the business asks for a change, I open a file and make it. That is the entire maintenance story, and for a job application site that is exactly the story I want.
